The scientists of the «face of Facebook» have decided to conduct another interesting experiment. Now they are interested what you can find out about a stranger just by looking at their picture. And it is possible, if that person is registered on Facebook.
The creators of the experiment have collected a database of 25 thousand students who have an account on the social network. After that they asked each student to look into a webcam, and with the help of their program they recognized 31% of the students. They didn’t want to stop at this and they compared photos from dating sites to photos on Facebook and have found 10% of the people. Scientists think that this technology will evolve in the future and that anybody who has a picture of stranger can find additional information about that stranger.
The first reaction to this experiment – was negative. Some users and right defenders thought that this is a violation of personal privacy. They organized a social protest, and the German authorities have ordered to shut down the function Tag Suggestions, and also requested the deletion of all the collected date. As of now, Facebook has two weeks to meet the requirements.
